On Sunday 25 October 2026, the clocks in the UK go back by one hour as British Summer Time ends and the UK returns to Greenwich Mean Time.
Your phone will probably update itself automatically.
Your boiler timer might not.
Does Your Heating Clock Update Automatically?
Modern smart heating controls will often adjust automatically, but older programmers and boiler timers may need changing manually.
If the clock is still an hour ahead, the heating could start and stop at different times from those you expect.
It’s Also a Good Time to Check Your Programme
Rather than simply changing the clock, take a minute to review your heating schedule.
As the evenings become colder, ask whether the current programme still fits your routine.
Check:
- when the heating comes on in the morning;
- whether it runs when nobody is at home;
- when it starts in the evening;
- whether weekend settings still suit your household.
Check the Heating While You’re There
The clock change falls at a useful point in the year to give your heating system a quick check.
Make sure radiators are heating normally, boiler pressure appears correct and the thermostat is responding as expected.
Something Not Working Properly?
If adjusting the programme highlights a wider problem with your heating, don’t leave it until winter.
An experienced engineer can assess the boiler’s condition, the likely repair cost and your wider heating requirements before recommending an appropriate option.
