Home Air Conditioning FAQs

Thinking about air conditioning for your home? Here are answers to the questions we’re asked most often about installation, planning and servicing.
Yes, in most cases. The right system depends on the size of the room, the layout of your property and where the indoor and outdoor units can go. We'll assess your home and recommend a suitable option.

We start with a home survey to size the system and plan where the units will go. On installation day we fit the indoor and outdoor units, connect the pipework through a small hole in the wall, and our NICEIC registered electricians add the power supply. We then commission the system and show you how to use it. Our guide What to Expect From a Home Air Conditioning Installation explains each step.

Most single-room installations are completed in a day. Multi-room systems can take longer, and we'll give you a timescale after the survey.

In England, most home systems are covered by permitted development rights, as long as they can heat as well as cool and the outdoor unit meets conditions on size, position and noise. Listed buildings and some conservation areas may still need permission. We check this during the survey, and our installation guide has more detail.
Yes. Most modern systems are air-to-air heat pumps, so the same unit cools in summer and heats in winter. They aren't eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, which only covers systems that heat water for radiators. If you're considering a heat pump to replace your boiler, see our air source heat pumps page.
Bedrooms, loft conversions, home offices and extensions with large windows are the most popular, because they tend to hold heat. Read more in Best Rooms to Install Air Conditioning in Your Home.
Yes. Most manufacturers recommend a service once a year to keep the system efficient, and keeping to their schedule can be a condition of the warranty. We can set up a planned maintenance schedule so you don't have to remember when it's due.

By law, engineers who install and work on air conditioning must hold F-gas certification, because the systems contain refrigerant gases. Deakin's is certified through REFCOM, and our own electricians handle the electrical connection.
